Xmas Art

Here is an Xmas card that I illustrated for personal use... I never know what to get people for Christmas so this year I thought something I'd made and put effort into might be a better gift! I've never drawn polar bears before, I kind of wanted to give the right one their distinctive black snout but then it made his face look muddy for some reason. Oh well.

I love the eerie green colour you can see reflected in snow beneath the Northern Lights. :) The little village by the lake in the distance was originally a city, but it looked like a big blotchy mess! I can't paint the inorganic detail of buildings very skilfully, so the whole lot got painted out and I had to start again. I think the village was more fitting for the tone of the picture in the end. :)

On the right is the second card. I don't think I've ever drawn a penguin before either. They're more difficult to draw than they look! Sorry about the blurriness of this one, I'm not sure why that is... Blogspot's image uploader is still confusing me a bit.

Lastly, triggerplug.com composed a nice showcase article about my artwork, featuring some art that I don't think is on my actual website, so if you want to see a few more pieces by me, please check it out. No one has written a review of my work before, it's kind of surreal to read about yourself from the point of view of a stranger, but it's interesting too. You can read the article here. Thank you very much triggerplug!

I hope you have a good Christmas even if you don't celebrate it. :) -Rachel

New Site... sort of ;)

Hi, sorry for the lack of updates on my old website (http://rachels.web.fc2.com). The site was too difficult and slow to maintain and regularly update, so I decided that a blog was a better choice in terms of reliability. :) I hope you'll like my new art!

This is one of my most recent original works. Water is such a challenge to paint but that's what makes it fun, I guess! I want to eventually make a whole set of rabbit-themed illustrations. ;)

These are my most recent pieces of fanart: the protagonists of Brave, Tangled, Rise of the Guardians and How to Train Your Dragon respectively. :) A lot of people draw these four characters together and I think it's a really cute idea. :)

As for animation, this is the only one that's fairly recent, I think I did it back in the Summer.

That's all for now. Thanks for looking! :)
